Reflections on the past year

Reflections on the past year

As we pass the anniversary of Lockdown 1 we’ve been reflecting on an extraordinary year. While it has not been without its significant challenges, we have lots to be thankful for…

We worked hard to reduce any impact on service delivery
A year ago, every one of our team faced the prospect of working from home as the Prime Minister urged everyone who could do their job from home to do so. Our IT department worked around the clock to ensure that all colleagues had the systems and equipment they needed to successfully work from home.

We looked after our Zen Family
We took extensive measures to make our offices COVID-secure, with strict booking systems and hygiene processes in place, so that those who needed to utilise our office environment could do so safely.

In addition to our existing Zoom subscription, we rolled out Microsoft Teams to all our colleagues and we all got to know our team members’ children and pets a bit better too as they made some star appearances!

We appreciated the toll that working from home could place on people, so we encouraged a four-day week during the summer months, allowing colleagues time away from laptops without having to use their full holiday allowance, and encouraged a healthy work/life balance with regular breaks during the working day.

We introduced a Wellness Programme in addition to our existing Employee Assistance Programme, helping to ensure that nobody felt isolated and that there was always someone to talk to help with any personal or work-related challenges.

We sent a care package to the home of every colleague, containing a selection of useful and comforting items in recognition of all the hard work and dedication.

We appreciated life was hard and tried to make it a little bit easier
We launched #worksheetwednesdays, a weekly series of activities and worksheets, focused on environmental issues and designed to help entertain and engage a whole nation of children making history by being home schooled.

We donated spare laptops to a school that had a need for IT equipment to support its pupils being home schooled.

We sent free sunflower seeds and spread some sunshine across our social media channels with a little bit of healthy competition!

We didn’t take our foot off the pedal…
We acted quickly on the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, helping our clients apply for circa £55 million of grant funding, and rapidly deployed our teams on the implementation of successful projects in order to meet the restrictive delivery timescales.

We delivered content and webinars designed to help customers access useful information, and offered vital guidance, such as how to avoid over estimated bills during closures and how to manage heating and ventilation requirements.

We launched our free Climate Crisis game to help educate and engage the energy users of the future, and bring a bit of variety to home schooling.

We launched a Graduate Scheme, recruiting five talented graduates into the business to undertake placements within different departments around the business, helping them to develop an understanding of Zenergi, learn new skills, and help to kickstart their careers.

We celebrated!
We didn’t let homeworking stop us from celebrating the usual office events.

We came together (virtually), all 150+ colleagues at Strat, our annual celebration of achievements of the past year – and we made sure that everyone had a special package of treats to enjoy throughout the day.

More than anything, we understood the value of teamwork and how we are #strongertogether.
Thank you to our customers and everyone we consider part of our Zenergi family for the support during the most unusual of times.
