Zenergi in Focus: Interview With A Management Accountant

Zenergi in Focus: Interview With A Management Accountant

So, Joseph, how long have you been part of the Zenergi family?

“I’ve been with Zenergi for 9 months and loving it!”

What previous experience or roles did you have before joining Zenergi?

“Life before Zenergi, I was a Financial Controller for a training company.”

Was there any particular reason why you chose to join Zenergi?

“I felt I’d learned all I could from my previous role and didn’t want to stand still. The job opportunity at Zenergi would mean a step forward to further expand my technical knowledge and professional capabilities!”

Could you tell us a little more about the role and what day-to-day life is like at Zenergi?

“Sure, I have a couple of key responsibilities. These include producing sales & purchase ledger, bank reconciliation, monthly management accounts, budgetary analysis, cashflow, payroll, expenses, ad hoc analysis, assisting with audit queries.

Day to day, as we’re part of the larger Zenergi group, there is a lot of collaboration between departments and companies to gather information as required. All in all, a varied day!”

When you first started, what support were you given?

“I have to say, the support given when I started and since has been amazing. My responsibilities were delivered steadily so I wouldn’t feel overwhelmed. The team have always been happy to answer any queries I had. They all have a high level of experience and technical knowledge so nothing takes too long to resolve. I enjoy working with them which is important”

Being in your role for 9 + months now, what qualities and skills do you believe make a successful Management Accountant?

“I’ve made some bullet points…

o       To be able to priorities effectively

o       Communication is key in all roles, not excluding accounting

o       Technical understanding of accounting principles is key

o       Numeracy skills are helpful but data analytic skills & time management are far more valuable”

What would you say the best part of your role is?

“I regularly need information from different departments which means  I’m able to get to know everyone in the company through my job. Everyone is always helpful and a joy to speak to.”

And, what would you say is the most difficult part of your role?

“Making sure I have every piece of info I need when collating the management accounts, it’s like completing a moving jigsaw, challenging, but fun.”

Do you feel like you have a good work-life balance?

“Zenergi have an excellent work/life balance, we work hard & play hard, the best way to be!

Fantastic place to work, incredibly understanding, If ever I’ve had family taken ill, they’ve always understood and given me the time I needed, which I am forever grateful for.”

What is your favourite thing about Zenergi?

“The people. We work really well together. They always have your back and always up for a cracking night out.

Another great aspect of Zenergi is their benefit packages. I was given the opportunity to make use of a £750 bursary towards education/CPD. This is incredibly useful as I am building on knowledge learned in Zenergi in an academic environment. What makes this really special is the freedom given to study whatever field you decide.”

What advice would you give a person who is thinking of applying for a job at Zenergi?

“Go for it, you’ll be challenged, like a lot of places but equally rewarded. I’m having a great laugh and I’m sure you would too.”
