Display Energy Certificates (DECs) were created to demonstrate the energy performance of Buildings occupied by public bodies.
Their purpose was to raise awareness of unnecessary consumption and to encourage energy reduction. Like electrical appliance ratings, buildings are given a rating between A-G, with ‘A’ demonstrating high energy efficiency and ‘G’ low efficiency.
Taking this compliance requirement one step further, Zenergi can provide a DEC Optimisation Report that identifies potential financial savings for your organisation. Zenergi initially developed this service for the Department of Energy and Climate Change head office building in London, in the process successfully improving their DEC rating from a G to a C. Using the DEC positively in this way could save an average primary school over £3,000 per year, whilst an average secondary school could save in excess of £7,000 per year.
Failure to display a DEC in a prominent place that is visible to the public at all times can see a penalty of £500 for each breach, and £1,000 for failure to have a valid advisory report if required.
If you choose to act on the report, we have the technical services to advise on funding application routes, as well as providing the business plan.
An EPC is required by law on construction, let or sale of a commercial building over over 50m2, with fines applicable for non compliance.
Contact Zenergi today to arrange an audit of your building which can identify energy saving opportunities, reducing expenditure and your business’ carbon footprint.
