Henley Green Medical Centre: Ensuring energy efficiency for state-of-the-art purpose-built health centre

Henley Green Medical Centre in Coventry was reopened in June 2021 after an extensive refurbishment that doubled the size of the practice, allowing it to offer new services, expand existing services, and accommodate more services in the future.

Case study highlights

Energy-efficient technology to reduce lighting and heating costs: LED lighting, Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) and a comfort heating and cooling system.

Designed with reduced environmental impact and lower costs in mind

Funded with the help of a £1.4 million NHS grant

Zenergi was involved throughout the project and beyond in order to ensure the transition back into the new building was seamless.

Challenge

As a fundamental service provider in the local community, Henley Green Medical Centre recognised its responsibility to demonstrate its commitment to limiting its contribution to Climate Change.

Funded with the help of a £1.4 million NHS grant, the state-of-the-art design uses the principles of healing architecture, so that the building is designed to have a positive impact on
the health and wellbeing of patients, while reducing its environmental impact through the installation of low carbon technology.

Solution

Zenergi was appointed to design and project manage the installation of technology that would help the practice reduce its environmental impact and lower its energy consumption and costs.

Results

Energy efficient LED lighting throughout the practice helps to contribute to the healing architecture, while a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) comfort heating and cooling system enables different zones within the building to have their own temperature setting. The heating system therefore operates at greater efficiencies than the previous equivalent, while the lighting and hot water systems will use significantly less energy than before.

This challenging project comprised multiple aspects as part of the existing building was to be refurbished, whilst another section was new-build, and a third section, the Pharmacy, was fitted out to be immediately leased.

Zenergi was involved throughout the project and beyond in order to ensure the transition back into the new building was seamless

The development at Henley Green Medical Centre is having a positive impact on the local area, now we can improve the services on offer for patients. The atrium of the surgery is flooded with light, giving a welcoming feeling and brightness. Zenergi was appointed to provide detailed Mechanical and Electrical building services designs for this part-refurbishment, part-new build project and their industry and sector expertise has provided us with a building that enables us to fulfil our vision of delivering high standard patient care.
