Windmill Care

Windmill Care is an award-winning group of residential care homes in South Gloucestershire and North Bristol. When an existing energy supplier attempted to retrieve £45,000 from Windmill Care due to a billing error, Zenergi’s experts were soon on the case. The result? £45,000 reduced to just £5,000.

A team effort

Zenergi’s relationship with Windmill Care was forged when we successfully negotiated new low tariffs for the gas and electricity contracts of the group’s three care homes. But prior to go-live, the incumbent energy supplier identified a billing issue.

When P272 legislation was first introduced – enabling more accurate bills and removing the need for manual meter readings – Windmill Care’s electricity supply had been upgraded to half-hourly meters. Yet, the supplier had been underestimating the readings for 38 months.

They said Windmill Care was thereby liable for a £45,000 catch-up bill for the electricity used but not billed for.

Our experts disagreed.

Making an impact

We established that the meter readings had been removed from the invoices during the migration. So Windmill Care could not have known there was an issue. After escalating our complaints with the supplier, we argued that Windmill Care was not responsible for the error and the supplier agreed – instead deciding to back-bill for the last 12 months only.

And that wasn’t all.

Driving results

Zenergi’s diligent work also uncovered a dormant Windmill Care account with an unused credit of £2,000. Together with the adjusted debt write off, Windmill Care was then left with a revised final bill of just over £5,000 – a huge total saving of £40,000.
