A community climb with a difference for St Theresa’s Hospice

A community climb with a difference for St Theresa’s Hospice

One of the core pillars of our Powering a Sustainable Future social value strategy is Community, and this month we’re applauding Bryan McCourt, who took on a unique challenge to raise vital funds for a charity at the heart of his community in Darlington.

You’ll usually find Bryan representing us at events or visiting customers in the North East. But on Saturday 10 May, he and his family took on a special challenge: climbing the popular Catbells fell in Keswick with a wheelbarrow in tow.

The challenge was conceived as a tribute to Bryan’s late mother, Marjorie. She was cared for with compassion and dignity in 2018 by St Theresa’s Hospice, a vital service for the people of Darlington and the surrounding area. Offering palliative care to individuals facing terminal illness, St Theresa’s plays a unique and indispensable role in the community.

What makes their work even more remarkable is that their core services are completely free to those who need them. However, that comes at a cost of £9,783 every day.

As a token of his gratitude, and in memory of his mother, Bryan set out to raise funds to help the hospice continue providing this essential service to families in need of care.

Reflecting on the challenge, Bryan said:

A small token of our gratitude is to raise some funds to support this wonderful charity as they have supported us, along with so many other families in the area. Whether you choose to donate or simply help spread awareness, one thing is clear: St Theresa’s Hospice is a lifeline for so many, and it needs our support.
