If your organisation is bidding for a UK central Government Contract, with an annual value of over £5 million (including VAT), where the procurement starts on or after 24 February 2025, it needs to have a Carbon Reduction Plan. But any organisation that wants to show its commitment to net zero targets can have one.

A Carbon Reduction Plan confirms an organisation’s commitment to achieving net zero by 2050 for its UK operations. It provides current emissions for the sources included in Scope 1 and 2 of the GHG Protocol, and a defined subset of Scope 3 emissions, these being upstream transportation and distribution; waste generated in operations; business travel; employee commuting; and downstream transportation and distribution.

The Carbon Reduction Plan must:

  • provide emissions reporting in CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) for the six greenhouse gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol.
  • outline the environmental management measures in effect, including certification schemes or specific carbon reduction measures the supplier has adopted, and will be able to apply when performing the contract and that support achieving net zero by 2050
  • be board approved, or company director approved if no board is in place;
  • be clearly signposted and published on the supplier’s website
  • be updated annually.

To ensure accurate and compliant emissions reporting, we require data from your most recent 12-month reporting period.
