Display Energy Certificates

Meet regulatory requirements and improve the energy efficiency of your buildings.

We all have a responsibility to reduce our energy use, which is why our service not only ensures public bodies meet their regulatory obligations, but also helps to identify opportunities to reduce energy, costs and your carbon footprint.

A Display Energy Certificate (DEC) provides an energy efficiency rating of the building based on the actual amount of metered energy used on a scale of A to G; where A is very efficient and G is the least efficient.

  • A valid Display Energy Certificate and Recommendation Report are legally required for every publicly funded building over 250m² that is frequently visited by the public.

  • For buildings over 1,000m² a DEC is required annually, and the Recommendation Report needs to be renewed every seven years.

  • For buildings between 250m² and 999m² a Display Energy Certificate and Recommendation Report are required every 10 years.

  • Fines of up to £1000 can be levied for non-compliance.

Key features and benefits

Meet your regulatory obligations

To avoid fines and ensure you meet the regulation, organisations must display the certificate in a prominent place clearly visible to the public and also hold a valid Recommendation Report.

Improve energy efficiency in your buildings

The Recommendation Report suggests how to improve the energy performance of your buildings.

Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting

Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) aims to promote energy efficiency within organisations, supporting the UK’s commitment to environmental targets. We help qualifying organisations understand how and where they are using the most energy and take care of the collation, calculations and reporting of energy consumption and carbon emissions for Scopes 1, 2 and 3.

Energy Performance Certificates

Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) indicate the intrinsic energy performance potential of a building using a rating system from A-G, where A is very efficient, and G is the least efficient. Ensuring a good energy rating is critical in this increasingly competitive environment as it will affect the rental and saleable value of your buildings and it also offers the opportunity to reduce tenants’ exposure to rising energy costs.

Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards

The Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) aims to improve the energy efficiency of the national building stock. From April 2018, it became unlawful to grant new leases for non-domestic properties in England and Wales which do not meet the standard.
