Our journey with E-ACT began in 2016 with a focus on energy procurement, followed by helping the Trust comply with Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR). Fast-forward to April 2024 and we were asked to launch a holistic energy training and awareness programme in E-ACT’s Shenley Academy and Mansfield Green Primary Academy.
The goal? To increase the school’s understanding of the environmental and financial cost of energy usage – and identify ways to reduce it. To deliver real value, our programme needed to introduce real-time energy data monitoring, capturing energy efficiency data that would help us analyse E-ACT’s energy consumption. Human participation is a big part of the picture when it comes to energy efficiency. So we also planned to integrate review sessions for E-ACT’s maintenance team as well as training for students.

What we were creating was unique: a full-service programme that included real-time energy data monitoring, full-scale energy audits, staff and student training and more.
By reviewing monthly and half-hourly data, we could identify specific times and areas with high energy consumption. That meant we could pinpoint areas for immediate improvement.
We created four training sessions on energy efficiency for E-ACT’s students, which easily slotted into the curriculum. We also delivered an online session for staff, in which we went over the high-level technical report we created. We explained all the issues we discovered on site and all identified savings in detail.
We knew that significant cost savings were possible – but we had to get the whole picture to be sure. We factored in every energy end-user, across both sites. Nothing was overlooked. Now the savings can be spent where they should be: back in the classroom, or reinvested into energy efficiency programmes.”
