Following the government announcement of £1 billion of grant funding in Phase 1 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS), Manningtree High School, part of the Alpha Trust, recognised the opportunity to significantly cut energy usage and carbon emissions.
We were asked to assess the opportunities for Manningtree High School to access funding through the Low Carbon Skills Fund (LCSF). After a thorough evaluation, we helped the school secure a £249,000 grant to improve energy efficiency through new LED lighting and upgraded roof insulation.

When Phase 2 of the PSDS funding was announced, we worked with Manningtree High School and the wider Alpha Trust to assess additional energy efficiency opportunities.
We helped prepare the application which resulted in the award of an additional £153,000 of funding. The grant was put towards new double glazed windows, further roof insulation, and an air source heat pump (ASHP) for both Manningtree High School and Colchester County High School for Girls.
Both rounds of the funding scheme were highly oversubscribed and funds were quickly allocated on a first come first served basis.
