Gregory Group

At Zenergi, we believe science-based targets are essential in transforming sustainability aspirations into measurable progress. Our partnership with the Gregory Group, one of the UK’s largest privately owned transport companies, showcases how ambitious net zero goals can be achieved through strategic action.

A partnership driving sustainability and energy savings

Since 2018, we have leveraged our market analysts’ expertise to help this leading transport, delivery and logistics carrier secure competitive energy prices through a flexible procurement strategy designed to capitalise on market dips.

Beyond procurement, our sustainability team has undertaken the group’s Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR). The partnership has ensured the Gregory Group remains compliant with the government regulation by calculating and reporting on its operational Scope 1 and 2 emissions, while identifying energy improvements.

Additionally, we have completed a comprehensive Greenhouse Gas Report, including Scope 3 emissions, to facilitate a broader overview of the Gregory Group’s emission’s profile.

So, when we were asked to assist the Gregory Group in identifying and committing to science-based net zero targets, our Net Zero team jumped to it.

Supporting ambitious climate action

To deliver on its core purpose to “embrace change that reduces our impact on the planet,” Gregory Group had already invested in alternative and low-carbon fuel sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But the company wanted to go further and sign a commitment with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), pledging to align its greenhouse gas reductions with climate science.

Strategic action with Zenergi’s Measure methodology

Science-based targets show businesses how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to prevent the worst effects of climate change. Our Net Zero team supported this ambition by using our Net Zero Measure methodology to conduct a comprehensive screening process to calculate the Gregory Group’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory. This analysis identified material Scopes and categories, enabling us to prioritise key areas for decarbonisation.

Through this process, we established four near-term net zero targets across all three Scopes, to be achieved by 2030, and facilitated their validation by SBTi.

Our feedback

We are proud to have supported one of the country’s largest, private transportation companies in achieving this impressive milestone."

Leveraging data for a cost-effective and timely delivery

GHG inventory calculations can be complex and time-consuming. By maintaining up-to-date data on Scope 1 and 2 emissions, we were able to seamlessly engage stakeholders and expedite the process of calculating Scope 3 emissions.
This foundation allowed us to deliver results cost-effectively and quickly, fast-tracking Gregory Group’s net zero goals.

Staying on track

As part of our service, we provide the Gregory Group with detailed reporting to help its sustainability team monitor progress and ensure emissions reductions align with validated targets.
A comprehensive Greenhouse Gas Report outlines emissions across all three Scopes compared to the base year, while a Monitoring and Targeting (M&T) report tracks performance against set objectives. Both reports feature clear, concise summaries supported by visually engaging graphs and tables, making the data easy to interpret and actionable.

Net zero by 2038: Supporting the ambitions of an award-winning sustainability team

The Gregory Group is continuing its sustainability journey and making waves in the industry while doing so. In 2024, the company’s commitment to renewable logistics was recognised by an Amazon UK Sustainability Above and Beyond Award and a Sustainability Award from the Scottish Food Trade Association.

We will continue to support the Gregory Group in meeting its near-term science-based net zero targets by 2030 and its longer-term ambition of becoming net zero by 2038.
