Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR): Navigating the compliance with ease

As your reporting year-end approaches, now is the time to gather your data for compliance with Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR).

SECR was introduced in April 2019 with the aim to promote energy efficiency within organisations and thereby reduce carbon emissions, supporting the UK’s commitment to environmental targets.

What is the qualification criteria?

Large companies that meet two or more of the following criteria need to comply:

  • Turnover is £36 million or more
  • Balance sheet totals £18 million or more
  • 250 or more employees
SECR reporting requirements

These include emissions from sources you control or own, such as natural gas, propane, fuel from owned or leased vehicles, and electricity generated from solar panels.

These cover emissions from purchased energy, like electricity from the grid or rented solar panels.

These involve emissions up and down your value chain, such as grey fleet emissions—where employees use their own vehicles for business travel.

Navigate the compliance with ease

The reporting process can be complex, but our team of energy and carbon analysts can guide you through the whole process, ensuring full compliance.

Our comprehensive service takes care of all the complex data collation for you with an experienced Sustainability team to manage the whole process on your behalf. We will work with you to capture all of the energy and transport data that is required to create a SECR evidence pack of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, which you can attach to your year-end results. We ensure the final report is fully compliant, including a carbon dashboard and ISO-certified quality assurance. This will ensure that you meet the compliance requirements and that your SECR strategy delivers energy, carbon and financial savings.

Leveraging SECR to drive energy efficiency

SECR is a mandatory annual review of energy efficiency and your carbon footprint at Director level. Energy and carbon reduction projects need to be stated, encouraging continuous improvement and energy savings. Whilst our compliance consultants are completing your SECR return, why not consider going beyond the minimum by starting to plan for net zero? Once the carbon footprint is established in SECR, the data can be leveraged for you to start your journey.

We will capture all of the energy and transport data that is required to create a SECR evidence pack of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, which you can attach to your year-end results, ensuring full compliance.
