Greener transport: helping Gregory Group meet ambitious goals.

At Zenergi, we believe science-based targets are essential in transforming sustainability aspirations into measurable progress. Our partnership with the Gregory Group, one of the UK’s largest privately owned transport companies, showcases how ambitious net zero goals can be achieved through strategic action.

A team effort

Since 2018, we’ve worked closely with Gregory Group to secure competitive energy prices through strategic energy procurement that flexes to capitalise on market dips. Our sustainability team has managed their Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR), ensuring compliance while identifying practical energy improvements they can make.

When Gregory Group shared their ambition to set concrete near-term goals, aligned with science-based targets, we were ready to support them with our Net Zero team’s expertise. We believe that any industry has the potential to transform by taking things step by step, turning challenging sustainability goals into achievable milestones.

We are proud to have supported one of the country's largest private transportation companies to structure three of their important Scopes to reach net zero by 2030. Using our Net Zero Measure methodology, we established science-based targets and set Gregory Group on a clear decarbonisation path for the near-term. When businesses like this take such bold action, it sends a powerful message across the entire transport sector."

Making an impact

Gregory Group was already living up to its core purpose to “embrace change that reduces our impact on the planet” through its investments in alternative and low-carbon fuel sources. Our team helped them build on this foundation, applying our Net Zero Pathway Measure methodology to conduct a comprehensive assessment of their greenhouse gas emissions across three emission Scopes.

This collaborative process revealed the most effective areas for carbon reduction and led us to establish four key near-term targets for 2030. We helped them to achieve validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which is a significant achievement for a company in the transport sector.

Driving results

Gregory Group’s commitment to meaningful climate action is already gaining recognition. In 2024, they received both the Amazon UK Sustainability Above and Beyond Award and a Sustainability Award from the Scottish Food Trade Association – a humbling and tangible acknowledgment of their progress.

As a part of our service, we provide clear, actionable reporting tools that help their sustainability team track progress against targets – helping them keep their momentum. Our comprehensive Greenhouse Gas Report documents emissions across all Scopes compared to their baseline year, while our Monitoring and Targeting (M&T) reports track performance against objectives. Both feature easy-to-understand graphs and tables that create actionable insights from complex data, so that Gregory Group’s team can continue to make informed decisions as they progress toward their goals.

The big picture

When transportation companies commit to science-based targets, the impact resonates far beyond their own operations. The transport sector accounts for a significant portion of global emissions, so leadership in this space is crucial. Gregory Group is demonstrating that even in traditionally high-carbon industries, ambitious climate action is not just possible – it’s part of doing good business. Their journey shows how strategic partnerships and data-driven approaches can turn sustainability aspirations into a well-planned journey toward a net zero future."
