Don’t think your impact means nothing, both at home and abroad. The urgency of our need to change is on all of us; it is our combined collective responsibility to do what we can, in every setting we can to reduce our impact – and if we all do a little it really does add up to a big impact. The same applies at home and at work – think about leaving the heating on and windows open, or laptops charging all day and night. Be mindful of your impact – let’s make a difference and ensure that there is a world for future generations to visit and enjoy."

Start by only packing what you need for your holiday – by overpacking you’ll reduce fuel efficiency if you’re flying or driving.
Pack a reusable water bottle, coffee cup and shopping bag to reduce single-use plastics.
Consider how you will get to your destination. Train travel is enjoying a renaissance across Europe, offering faster, more comfortable options with a fraction of the carbon footprint compared to flying. Once you arrive, use public transport, rent e-bikes or scooters, or explore on foot – you’ll reduce your emissions and gain health benefits.
Don’t be tempted to leave the keycard in the power slot while you’re out. It means lights and air conditioning may run all day, resulting in wasted energy. Turn them off when you leave the room.
Also, consider whether your room needs daily cleaning or towel changes. Reduce laundry loads to help conserve water and energy.
Try to choose local and in-season ingredients, so you can reduce food miles and try many different, new and exciting things. This is especially important if you are visiting a country where many foods are flown in, such as island destinations. And remember, take only what you’ll eat. It can be tempting to over-indulge on holiday but avoid stacking a plate high of food of which half gets binned.
Support the local community by spending your money in locally-owned restaurants and shops. Choose tours or excursions that give back to the community or environment and avoid activities that exploit animals or people.
Take a few minutes to learn basic phrases in the local language. A simple “hello,” “thank you,” or “yes, please” can go a long way in showing respect and building goodwill.Be aware of local customs and cultural sensitivities. Acting with curiosity and kindness makes you a welcome guest wherever you go.
