Zenergi brings positive energy to the community in its first Social Value Day

Zenergi brings positive energy to the community in its first Social Value Day

On 20 June our team took part in our first annual group-wide Social Value Day, further strengthening how we are ‘Powering a Sustainable Future’ for our community and acting on our commitment to introduce Zenergi’s annual volunteering day for every person within the Group. The team worked in groups to carry out different activities, including litter picking; gardening; vegetation management and painting to improve the maintenance of the surrounding environment for its community.

The activities took place in Reading and the West Midlands, before bringing the team together for our legendary Strat event. Read on to see how we came together to make a difference…

Reading litter picking

In partnership with Reading Borough Council, teams from our Southampton, Linlithgow, Colchester and Gloucester offices picked litter in four popular locations around the Reading area. This work ensured the locations were left clean and safe for both its users and local wildlife.

Thank you to all the volunteers on the day and also to the team coordinators who helped make the session a success! A fantastic effort from everyone involved!– the RAYS Team

Gardening

Another team headed down to The Weller Centre, a community centre that provides activities, events and services for local residents. The garden is an important part of the centre, particularly in the summer, and the team worked hard to give the garden a makeover.

The team removed a large number of weeds and nettles; repainted benches; planted numerous plants and flowers; removed all litter and even rediscovered a path that had been completely grown over!

“Passers-by have commented on the appearance of the garden and how they feel there is a renewed pride in the garden area. The staff love looking out at benches that match in colour and are bright and vibrant again. Everyone loves the new red rose at the front and our children love the chickens in the garden, although have renamed them a few times!

Thank you Zenergi for all the hard work in making our garden a lovely and safe place once again.”The Weller Centre

The West Midlands

In the West Midlands, teams from our Technical Division based at our Brierly Hill office, supported the Canal & River Trust by painting canal locks in the local area. This important work prolongs the life of the locks resulting in a decreased carbon footprint and environmental impact due to the extended lifespan the work affords the locks. To combat plastic pollution and microplastics, they also took part in vegetation management and litter picking along the canal.

The group split into three teams to renovate different parts of the canal. See how they got on…

Factory Locks

“A huge thank you to Zenergi who completed an astounding amount of work. Thank you for cleaning up the area, lock painting & helping @CRTWestMidlands colleagues with vegetation work. All work was completed to a high standard. Thank you for making a difference. #teamwork” – Canal & River Trust

What the team achieved in the few hours was amazing. Everyone worked really hard and the comradery and effort was faultless. It was great to be part of and would be an absolute pleasure to host a similar event for Zenergi in the future.” – Canal & River Trust

Noticed our polo tops? (How could you not!)

We provided everyone in the group with a Zenergi branded polo top to wear on the day. But these aren’t just any polo tops… Our polo tops are supplied by sustainable clothing brand, Stanley/Stella. The brand works to source only the best raw materials, grown or produced in ways that do not harm people, animals or the environment. They exclusively use 100% GOTS certified organic cotton, recycled polyester and other sustainable materials, making them the perfect garment for our Social Value Day.

Well done to our hard working teams! We are excited to incorporate this activity into our annual calendar and continue spreading the positive energy – stay tuned for more!
